00Cr17MoS is an ultra-low carbon molybdenum-sulfur free-machining ferritic stainless steel bright bar, with carbon ≤0.025%, chromium 16.0%~19.0% and molybdenum 0.75%~1.25%. Higher sulfur content is added to optimize machinability, serving as a free-machining improved grade based on 00Cr17Mo. Nickel-free, it features ferritic soft magnetic property. It has balanced comprehensive mechanical properties, moderate tensile and yield strength, stable load-bearing capacity and excellent plasticity & deep drawability. Appropriate deformation occurs under force to avoid brittle fracture. The ultra-low carbon formula restrains carbide precipitation during welding and eliminates intergranular corrosion sensitization. Molybdenum strengthens the passivation film, delivering far better resistance to chloride ions, pitting, salt spray and mild acid & alkali corrosion than standard 00Cr17S. Sulfur acts as solid lubricant to greatly improve chip breaking, sharply reducing tool wear in automatic lathes, CNC turning, milling and drilling, and greatly boosting processing efficiency. It boasts good thermoplasticity for hot working with smooth hot rolling and forging to fabricate various precision blanks and electromagnetic valve components. Only slight work hardening appears in cold working for stable cold heading and bending. Cold drawing & centerless grinding produce bars with ultra-high surface finish and precise dimensional accuracy.
