304L is an ultra-low carbon improved austenitic stainless steel bright bar derived from grade 304, with carbon ≤0.03%, much lower than standard 304 (C≤0.08%). It adopts classic 18Cr-8Ni formula and is non-magnetic under solution annealed state.
It delivers balanced mechanical properties with moderate tensile & yield strength, outstanding plasticity, deep drawability and cold heading performance. Uniform plastic deformation occurs under load to avoid brittle fracture. It cannot be hardened by heat treatment; cold working induces work hardening, while high toughness can be restored after annealing.
Its core advantage lies in ultra-low carbon content that restrains chromium carbide precipitation during welding, eliminating chromium depletion at grain boundaries and intergranular corrosion. Thick sections and continuous welded parts retain full corrosion resistance without post-weld solution annealing, solving the defect of easy rusting of standard 304 weld joints. It features stable machinability for CNC turning, milling and drilling, excellent thermoplasticity for smooth hot rolling & forging, and supports cold forming processes including bending, stamping and cold heading.
Combining universal corrosion resistance, outstanding low-temperature toughness and premium weldability, it serves as core raw material for chemical, pharmaceutical, food, pressure vessel, cryogenic equipment and mass welded structural components.
