316L is an ultra-low carbon molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel bright bar, low-carbon upgraded grade based on 316. Carbon content is strictly controlled ≤0.03%.
Molybdenum forms dense passivation film and greatly improves resistance to pitting & crevice corrosion, delivering far better performance against seawater, salt spray and chloride media than 304 and standard 316. Its core ultra-low carbon merit restrains chromium carbide precipitation at grain boundaries between 450~850℃, eliminating intergranular corrosion sensitization after welding. Thick sections and continuous weldments retain full corrosion resistance without post-weld solution annealing, solving the rust defect of 316 weld joints.
It features balanced room-temperature mechanical properties, stable tensile & yield strength, outstanding plasticity, deep drawability and cold heading performance. Uniform plastic deformation occurs under load without brittle fracture risk. It cannot be hardened by heat treatment; cold working induces work hardening, while high toughness can be restored via solution rapid cooling at 1020~1120℃.
It boasts excellent thermoplasticity for smooth hot rolling & high-temperature forging, supports cold forming including bending, cold heading and stamping, and fits stable CNC turning, milling and automatic lathe processing. Combining broad-spectrum corrosion resistance, premium weldability and wide-range toughness, it is the preferred core raw material for welded precision parts in chemical, marine, medical, food and water treatment industries.
