S32205 is balanced nitrogen-molybdenum duplex stainless steel bright bar with roughly 50% austenite + 50% ferrite. Carbon ≤0.03%, Cr 21~23%, Ni 4.5~6.5%, Mo 2.5~3.5%, N 0.14~0.20%, PREN≈33~35, the most widely used standard duplex grade.
Nitrogen delivers strong solid-solution strengthening, yield strength over twice that of 316L. It combines ferrite’s outstanding resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and austenite’s high toughness. High Cr-Mo forms stable passivation film, with far superior pitting & crevice corrosion resistance versus 316L, 317L and S31500 (3RE60). Ultra-low carbon eliminates intergranular corrosion risk after welding.
Solution treatment at 1020~1080℃ with rapid water quenching maintains balanced 40/60 ~ 60/40 dual-phase structure. It cannot be hardened by quenching; cold working causes work hardening, while re-solution annealing restores balanced duplex structure and high toughness.
